Yuribou goes back to school
| I wish my room looked like this. But then again, I don’t wish my left leg was amputated at the knee…
Well, not school, really. University. Medical School, to be exact. Yep, I’ve finished my final summer holiday ever and I’m back in Coventry ready for my new term starting on Monday. Unfortunately, this means [...]
Rules of Anime #4 – Protagonists need to be good at something
Here’s more “Rules of Anime”. I’m really clutching at straws about what to write these days… -_-.
Rule #4 – Protagonists which seem useless are always good at something
| Ganbare! You can do anything if you put your mind to it!
Probably a 95% rule, because I’m sure people can name protagonists that are not good at [...]
Zero no Tsukaima – The Redemption?
Earlier this season, I was very quick to slate Zero no Tsukaima as having a weak and annoying male lead and a Shana-clone as the main driving force behind a series with a rather dubious plotline dressing up a blatant harem anime-wannabe. I remember reading on a forum quite recently that the reason one person [...]
New Poll: BEAM ATTACKU! Who has the best beam attack in anime?
Following on from my last post, I did a mini-trawl through the anime I have on my computer at the moment for any other characters that can match the power of the Iyo-Pe beam. Unfortunately, since I don’t watch mecha or much shounen, these were a bit limited ^_^;;
HOWEVER! You must all now vote on [...]
Am I the only person who likes Animal Yokocho? A short discussion on East Vs West children’s pop culture
For me, anime for kids has always been a very defined brand. It mainly occupies the extremes of the genres shoujo and shounen; for example, cheesy mecha, never-ending collector type shows like Pokemon and YuGiOh and contest type shows like Prince of Tennis or fighting shows like Naruto or Bleach. The shoujo end of the [...]
Konshuu no Renai ~NGE’s Maya and Ritsuko~
I mentioned way back when on my first Konshuu no Renai that Cardcaptor Sakura was my very first anime and therefore Sakura/Tomoyo was my first and best loved yuri couple. However, up til recently, I had forgotten of the other yuri that I followed back then in the first few series I watched. NGE – [...]
Renkin 3-kyuu Magical Pokaa~n – Picture Wrapup
| Waaa~ Pachira no panchira…
If you’re not new to my blog, you may have noticed my love of anime lacking any kind of actual content, but a high amount of either randomness, moe and/or fanservice to compensate. I’ve analysed this, and I think it’s mainly because I don’t need to be in a particular mood to enjoy it…There are definite moods for watching Speed Grapher or Utawarerumono or other serious anime, and so they end up being watched less.
Also, I don’t actually have to pay attention to the storyline and I can just enjoy watching the comedy or moe moe fanservice. Magipoka, or, to give it its full name, Renkin 3-kyuu Magical Pokaa~n, fulfils all those criteria and then some. Accordingly, it has become one of my favourite animes of last season ^_^.
The basic feel of Magipoka is quite like an English sketch show, with the four characters playing four japanese anime stereotypes, with the added twist of being various ‘demons’. We have Aiko, the meganekko, Liru, the tomboy, Yuuma, the token loli and Pachira, the wannabe seductress/girl insecure about her bust. In fact, the only two TV episodes that actually follow on from each other are the random one where Yuuma dies and then in the first part of the next episode she gets thrown out of heaven.
The humour in some of the episodes is quite hit and miss, but some of the jokes really are laugh out loud funny. Actually, I think the funniest part of the series is how they have a really serious opening sequence and then the program itself is really not. And Suzumiya Haruhi is playing Pachira. What more could you want?
And so in the manner of my series wrapups, here are the ten defining moments of the series! This is dedicated to Froth Bite and Givemeblood, fansubbers extraordinaire!
The Adventures of Eva and Chachamaru Part 2!
| Now an Eva / Chachazero fanfic. THAT would be fucked up.
Heh, I had the beginning sentence of this going round in my head for ages but I couldn’t be bothered to write the rest. I really enjoyed writing this chapter, so I hope that you all enjoy reading it as well. As usual, I [...]
Inserting yuri into non-yuri anime ~Utawarerumono~
I was sitting in a car on the way to the Lake District thinking about what to write, when it occurred to me that the reason that I have been struggling to come up with material to write about is that this season’s anime has been generally disappointing, with the probable exception of the rather [...]
Karakuriyuri Fanfiction archive goes online (finally)
Finally, after promising that I would get my fanfiction archive online by two weeks ago, I finally got round to finishing off converting the stories to html and uploading them ^_^;; My excuse is that my internet suddenly stopped working (again!) and then I was climbing various high things in the Lake District.
Well, after lots [...]
