This post is about female ejaculation. Myth or miracle? You decide the answer to this age old debate…

Background and anatomy

The existance or not of female ejaculation has been debated for centuries. One thing that experts agree on is that there are a large proportion of the female population which do expel fluids from the urethra on orgasm, and depending on the inclusion criteria, the number has been reported from 10-69% (that have experienced it at some time). The fluid itself has been analysed and reanalysed as to its origin, but it still remains a topic for debate as to its origin.

It is fairly sure that the liquid itself varies considerably from thick white mucusy secretion to clear fluid. The force of the ejaculation can be anything from seepage to geysers of Yellowstone Park like proportion (as made famous by the lovely Cytherea). The composition shares some features with urine (contains similar electrolytes, creatinine, prostate specific antigen), but the concentrations are very different which points towards another source.

This other source was first hinted at in the 18th century by the work of the Dutch anatomist DeGraaf, who discovered a glandular mucosa and ducts (which are know known as Skene’s ducts) which surrounded the female urethra. However, he believed that the ejaculate was actually secreted by the vagina, cervix and uterus as well as the urethra. Skene rediscovered these ducts in the 19th Century and hypothesised their function in producing this ejaculate.

Later on in the 20th Century, Huffman discovered more glands in the proximal urethra nearer the bladder which he hypothesised were more likely to be the source of ejaculatory fluid, but it wasn’t until a full paper by Grafenburg in 1950 (famous for his eponymous Spot) in which he demonstrated that there were in fact erectile type tissues surrounding the female urethra which enlarged on arousal. He too then postulated that the contractions caused by orgasm could then squirt out the collected fluids from the urethra in such a manner as that observed. He also tried to differentiate this phenomenon from coital incontinence, another common, but more distressing disorder.

However, since Grafenburg, the topic has been only vaguely touched on in the literature, and the exact physiology of the phenomenon still remains a mystery. Judging by the volume of ejaculate produced by some women (sometimes up to half a pint), it seems difficult to imagine that such a large volume could be stored in the urethra and it is sensible to conclude that at least some of this is urine or that during coitus, there is a great deal of retrograde ejaculation into the bladder and it is the mixture of fluids that is expelled during orgasm. The discoveries made by Grafenburg has led some to come up with the theory that the urethra, paraurethral glands and clitoris act together as one “organ”, which is a topic receiving heated debate amongst feminists as it seems “phallocentric”. There is also the ongoing argument that it cannot be well separated from stress incontinence during orgasm.

The most interesting point is why the fluid is produced in the first place…Since it is secreted after orgasm, it’s function cannot be to aid coitus or fertilisation, since it would then be secreted during intercourse. A possibility that might spring to mind is that it is a vestigial remnant of the male reproductive system. However, this is most unlikely, since men evolved from women, not the other way around. Perhaps it evolved as a visual sign that the female was at her most receptive at that point. Perhaps it’s just a funny thing that we’ll never understand. Perhaps God slipped when he made Eve.

Anyway, the most important thing is that it happens and it’s hawt. But why is it hawt? Glossing over all the “Women taking back their feminity and control of their pleasure” feminist arguments, of course…

Female ejaculation in hentai

Female ejaculation is pretty common in hentai – from a tiny gush to a sprinkling of mist, the girls that do it always do it with style and always on time (obviously everyone always orgasms on time ^^;;). In fact, it is very difficult to tell between just vaginal juicing, ejaculate and urine in doujin art and even hentai anime, since all fluids issuing forth from various orifices of the perfect women of hentai are invariably perfectly crystal clear or pure white like a fluffy cloud.

It is clear that even in hentai, female ejaculation also exists as a fetish.

It’s pretty easy to think of reasons why girl’s squirting fluids at orgasm is something that people who like watching pornography would like to see added to their otherwise vanilla scenes. Most of the answers relate to what I call the “Visible female orgasm” effect, though there are other reasons as well.

1. The Scene Climax hypothesis

If there’s one thing that lesbian pornography lacks, its the scene climax. In straight pornography, this is usually achieved by the male ejaculation (money shot, cumshot or whatever you like to call it). Scene climaxes are useful in many ways, since it provides a culmination to the (otherwise repetitive) scene and a bridge to ending it and beginning the next scene. It also allows the person “using” the pornography to finish up and get on with his life. No matter how hard lesbian pornography tries, it’s very difficult to produce an adequate climax, since most female pornstars horribly overact and make it obvious that they’re faking it to the max. And without a visual clue to whether a woman has had an orgasm, the feelings of uncertainty eventually ruin the climax.

The role of female ejaculation in this case is to provide a focus for the scene so that either a lesbian scene can reach a proper climax or a straight scene can have several climaxes. Either way, the addition improves what might otherwise have been a very boring spectacle into something vaguely watchable. This reason is closely related to the next:

2. The Visible Female Orgasm effect (or “Girl enjoying herself more than usual” effect)

I think that the main force driving female ejaculation as a fetish is that it is a visible marker of female sexual enjoyment. By marking out the female orgasm or even just female arousal, the spectacle of female ejaculation not only in itself increases the arousal value of the scene, but also allows other subconscious ideas to be suggested.

Obviously the primary effect is that people like to see a scene in which a girl is enjoying herself, and having watched far too much pornography where the girl fakes her enjoyment, it is infinitely more valuable to have a scene in which a girl is seen to be really enjoying herself. I call this the “This is the best fuck of my life” effect. This effect can also be used to suggest that a particular partner that the girl is currently with is better in some way than all her previous sexual partners. For example, she might secretly like penises the size of monster trucks. Or more commonly, it can be used to signify that girl/girl sex is better than girl/boy sex (something which I might be inclined to agree ^^)

Along with this, visible female arousal (VFA) helps undermine other plot points that might otherwise have suggested that the girl was a non-consensual partner in these sexual hijinks. In a rape scene, this might tell the watcher that “I secretly like being raped” which of course we discovered was a powerful turn on way back in March is Fetish month #1. Other more unpleasant fetishes (enemas, heavy bondage etc.) combined with VFA would suggest “Even though I’m protesting, actually this fetish makes me come like gangbusters”. I call this the “Secretly I’m a depraved little girl” effect.

3. The “More liquids the better” hypothesis

Speaks for itself, really. There does seem to be a trend in certain hentais that the amount ejaculated by the men seems to be over and above the amount that could be healthily stored in an average woman’s uterus. And in fact in several more unusual hentais, this is demonstrated by the filling and distension of said uterus. But I digress. This trend is in fact part of the “more liquids the better” mantra which states that Liquid = Arousal therefore More liquids = More arousal. It figures, I guess, since I already made that point in a way when I was talking about “Visible female arousal” above. We’ll come across this effect again when I talk about lactation – After all, surely it would be more arousing if liquids were coming out of every available orifice?

4. Watersports lite

Yeah, this one’s a long shot. Watersports (urination fetish) didn’t get many votes in the poll, so I assume there aren’t many fans on here. However, as I hinted at above, especially in doujin and hentai, the line is blurred between urination and ejaculation, so that if the topic is not specifically mentioned in the text, it is difficult to tell them apart. Therefore, fans of watersports would also approve of female ejaculation material, even though the same could not be said of the opposite case.

Conclusion

So what have we learned today? I’ve talked a little about the anatomy and current understanding of female ejaculation and how it’s thought to occur, but the field is still open to more research. It’s just begging for someone to go in there and do a large study on the general population to break this “myth or miracle, incontinence or ejaculation” thing wide open. About why it’s hawt – Of course, pornography is about showing people that are aroused for the sake of other people who are aroused, but in a distant location. And any symbol or easy reference to that level of arousal is likely to be pounced on as something that elevates it from boring to something special. Oh, and did I mention it’s warm, runny and wonderful?

    First off I have to disagree with number 4. From what I get off of watersports it seems to be an issue of power, either in regards to humiliation of or control over the person. I may be wrong, but that seems to be the focus. Even when the girl lets loose during the middle of relations it is an issue of the power the act has over her. Ejaculation on the other hand is about about primal pleasure.

    What I find most interesting is Visible Female Orgasm effect and the connection it has to futanari, at least for me. I have noticed that usually the female is the passive party in hentai and porn in general. I don’t mean in the story or whatever limited acting they have either, I mean the actually fucking (is cursing allowed). The girl is usually either getting rammed or being told how to move. For me this is a problem sex should be something that brings joy and if you aren’t active in it the joy that is possible is reduced. This may not seem like an issue since this is all fake, but it is a reflection of an actual problem. 40% of American women have some type of sexual dysfunction usually low desire or troubles with orgasm (which is at about 21%). And that is why porn needs to become more sex positive since sadly that is how a good deal of society’s views on sex are formed. Sorry for that weird-ass detour, this is just how I see everything with a social lens.

    But how does all this factor into futanari? As I see it futanari allows a female to become the active party in a sexual encounter. If in part just so the action follows her erection. First we get the backstory, the arousal, foreplay, some outercourse, maybe a first orgasm, then the intercourse and the climax. See the climax of the sex is usually the climax of the story. But by having a female be the focus she becomes the active party. Which is why I like visible female arousal, the female becomes the focus of the action.

    I’ve been wondering about this for years, and came to some of my own conclusions:

    If it’s “thick white mucusy secretion” seeping out that isn’t the result of a male ejaculating inside, it’s the real deal. If it’s like a fountain, the woman is peeing at the same time as having an orgasm. If it’s clear, it’s more like a natural lubricant, or the female equivalent of pre-cum.

    I’m mentioned in a post – this feels like being a VIP. So, let’s see, the point of it being pee is completely wrong I think, because its not really very common to pee from where the uhm hands go in to do their work. And saying that sex between girls is not as good or even better than with a boy I don’t agree with.

    Then I really would like to know if we’re actually talking about anything else than a greater spilling of lubrication fluid at the climax, that would be an easy and simple explenation.(Tell me if I misunderstood something here)

    About what is symbolises I have nothing to say because I agree completely with Yuribou in this point.
