New Season’s Haul – KimiAru, H20 and other anime malarkey

| End of Dennou Coil – ~BIG SPOILERS ALERTZ~
Hi readers,
I know it’s been a long time since I last posted, but unfortunately time has mostly been spent revising, then panicking about not revising enough and so really haven’t had the brain processing power necessary to do something as complex as write a post.
However, somehow I have been finding the time in between working and stressing to watch a lot more anime and catch up on my backlog. First of all, I finally finished off Dennou Coil which was, least to say, mildly confusing (and the meat of another, later post) and still watching some last season stuff (namely KimiKiss and Kanonad, which are slowly unfurling into their own worlds of lovetriangly freakish nonsense that we’ve come to expect from “more-than-harem” type shows.
Of the new season, I have been collecting (mostly on recommendation of Kurogane of eponymously named anime blog) KimiAru, H20 – Footprints, Spice and Wolf, Rosario + Vampire and True tears (which I aven’t started yet) as well as the continuing adventures of the Minami sisters (recovering from a traumatic and unnecessary facelift operation)
KimiAru
Somehow, the most promising looking harem anime of the season turns out almost unwatchable from the word go. It manages to upset all of my senses at once and therefore fails at so many levels. Let me list all the things wrong with it:
- It is a complete ripoff, storyline wise, of Hayate no Gotoku. (down on his luck man saved by eccentric rich girl with random weird pet and strange head butler person) I mean, butler anime are fairly rare, so hopefully that means it is easy to find a storyline that hasn’t been done already. Apparently not.
- The mistaken tactic of transplanting the personalities of the main characters with anime-moe stereotypes. Usually a bad move, and there is no exception in this case. Apart from the slightly original evil incest-yuri girl, we have the precocious loli, the oh ho ho girl, the eyepatch girl, the onii-chan complex sister, the plain girl and of course, the trap.
- The main protagonist, Ren, is hideously drawn. I call this kind of drawing for the main character “Hideki-syndrome”, (from Chobits, for those of you not into your classics) suffering as they do from stupid pinprick eyes, messy, neither here nor there mop hair and a vaguely defeatist personality. In fact, just looking at him hurts my eyes.
In fact, the only saving grace of the entire anime is the frequent yuri-rape and yuri-incest rape that Shinra-sama exacts on her underlings every few minutes until the joke gets old and falls down from exhaustion.
H20 – Footprints in the sand

Really liking this one, in contrast. Although by episode 4 there is still not an inkling wtf is going on, this does not detract from the fact that this is an extremely good anime. The title itself comes from an old Christian poem of the same name reputedly written by Mary Stevenson in the 1930s which is all about God watching over and supporting every man. However, the title is an H-game. Hmm, I’m sure that’s insulting God in some way…
The strange thing is that, with all the -sama honorifics and references to the “Chosen one” and suchlike, I keep expecting the anime to suddenly turn into some random Christian metaphor where Kohinata is Satan, Hinata is Gabriel, the protagonist is God and Himeji is some kind of trap Jesus. Oh, and trap yaoi is made of win. Might have been better to leave the protagonist blind though, I thought that was a novel way of approaching the storyline.
Rosario + Vampire is both badly drawn and voiced, and suffers from your typical weak male lead that gets on your nerves within the first five seconds and continues to grate for the entire of each and every episode. I hope that at some point his enemies can just get the job done and kill him already. Oh and evil vampire girl is definitely Maya from Tenjho Tenge. Except less cool, of course.
Spice and Wolf requires reserved judgement. The concept itself is fairly original, though I somehow get the feeling that the “travelling with a god” storyline has been done somewhere before, though I can’t quite put my finger on it. Oh, and the wolf god Horo talks with what I have come to call a “Yoroichi accent” (Shihouin Yoroichi from Bleach), which instantly makes her hawt. That, and she walks around naked for most of the first episode. That’s got to be a plus.
So in conclusion, this season is again disappointing, especially for my particular favourite type of show (mindless random comedy with fanservice and, where possible, random yuri). Looking into the future, there is promise next season with the second season of Code GEASS and perhaps after that we might just get headwind of Haruhi 2. Maybe. Hold on until then, people…GANBATTE!

Yeah Yuribou I know what you know about being stressed I just had exams in school and have started four new classes but surprisingly enough I just got done watching almost half of all this season’s anime. On the new season’s haul KimiAru seemed ok to meet b/c I love Hayate so a knockout is kind of alright with me ^_^. H20 I have not seen any of yet but strangely animes’ based off of H-games are sometimes good but sometimes incredibly horrible. Spice And Wolf I love this anime so far I have read the manga also this series is got to be one of the most entertaining and hawt lol, animes I have seen in quiet a while. Rosario + Vampire was all the fan service you could want in an anime not mentioning in the first episode when the main female lead got soaked with some unknown questionable substance ^_^ this is a big plus but the excessive pantyshots just leaved me wanting more. Wanting more of what you ask? More nudity if it had this it would have made it excellent but I thought it was above average. Well, nice hearing your opinions on these new shows and hope you enjoy my reviews.
Excellent post btw

Yeah, I agree, this season [is Kimikiss/Minami-ke this season? I count it as is] is pretty bad compared to the last.
Then again, you have the dual combo of Gurren Lagann and Lucky Star, so it’s hard to top that.
Of all the offerings this season, the only one I truly enjoyed was Genshiken 2, but disappointingly it only slotted 13 episodes, so not even my favourite arc with Oguie made it in. There’s always the OVA’s. One can hope.
Of the others, I’m still trucking through Kimikiss, although the pastel colours are slowly killing me. The pointlessness of the plot, too, bugs me- or maybe I’m just a little exasperated- I’m not sure anyone’s high school experience was as carefree and boring as THAT. Lol. Still watching, though, if nothing else but to watch ‘Oneechan’.
Minami-Ke was funny at parts but at the end the appearance of the new family was just strange. And is it just me, but did anyone notice the strange up-close shots resembling Bible-black animation? Weird as hell XD.
Blue Drop is great, but unfortunately the subber I’m watching it through is taking their time, so I’m very behind on it.

KimiAru has actually pretty much NOTHING to do with Hayate no Gotoku. I strongly advise you to watch 1-2 more eps before you make premature calls like this.
Hayate is a moe comedy. KimiAru is ecchi.

Of the list, the only series Im watching is Rosario + Vampire, but so far (eps 4) Im really enjoying it. I especially loved the yuri rape throughout the first half of the third episode. :D
Oh, and death to Tsukune, whiny 4ss b1tch. :D

There looks to be some yuri coming up in episode 4 of Shigofumi, give it a watch if you have time. Mind you, its a great anime on its own, but the yuri just is the icing on the cake =).
I’m pretty disappointed with the new minami-ke, so the only shows I’m planning on watching this season are the aforementioned Shigofumi and zoku sayonara zetsubou sensei. Going by reviews I’ve seen of series this season, I’d say I’ve made the right choice to stick with these two.

I’m torn over KimiAru. It’s like watching every generic anime stereotype thrown into a house and expecting something good to bubble out of it. But instead it is just a mess of gimmicks. Plus Ren annoys me, mostly because he looks almost like Naruto. However, it has it’s amusing moments and those keep me going with it.
I’m really finding myself start to be unable to stand watching H2O. There’s obviously some kinda folktale storyline to it and where I would normally be intrigued by this, I’m just getting sick of that blind twat lead that’s not even frigging blind.
I have only one reason to watch R+V: The succi-girl.
I also suggest picking up Shigofumi, and I haven’t even seen this yuri plot yet. It’s an excellent series.
And am I the only person who actually liked the new Minami-ke as much as the first series?

There was this guy see.
He wasn’t very bright and he reached his adult life without ever having learned “the facts”.
Somehow, it gets to be his wedding day.
While he is walking down the isle, his father tugs his sleeve and says,
“Son, when you get to the hotel room…Call me”
Hours later he gets to the hotel room with his beautiful blushing bride and he calls his father,
“Dad, we are the hotel, what do I do?”
“O.K. Son, listen up, take off your clothes and get in the bed, then she should take off her clothes and get in the bed, if not help her. Then either way, ah, call me”
A few moments later…
“Dad we took off our clothes and we are in the bed, what do I do?”
O.K. Son, listen up. Move real close to her and she should move real close to you, and then… Ah, call me.”
A few moments later…
“DAD! WE TOOK OFF OUR CLOTHES, GOT IN THE BED AND MOVED REAL CLOSE, WHAT DO I DO???”
“O.K. Son, Listen up, this is the most important part. Stick the long part of your body into the place where she goes to the bathroom.”
A few moments later…
“Dad, I’ve got my foot in the toilet, what do I do?”
