Shoujo Sect – At last, something to look foward to ^_^~~

Hi all,

First of all, thank you to everyone who’s born with me during hiatus – I am currently enjoying (the rather inexplicably named) Candy Boy…This should teach me never to listen to Erica of Okazu fame when I want to find a yuri anime worth watching. It’s not that her opinion isn’t all powerful in the yuri world, but she does tend to get fairly opinionated when faced with such an obviously fanservicey concept as a love triangle between two sisters and a cute underclassman. Sorry Erica. But Candy boy is exactly relevant to my interests ^^;;

I’ll probably post an editorial on it later…

The real reason for this post is to rejoice. Shoujo sect, one of my absolute all time favourite eromanga is being converted to an OVA hentai animation. For those of you that haven’t come across this wonderful offering yet, it is currently being translated by otenba (and I did try out for that translation post, but am just not proficient enough to really manage a real manga ^^;)

Shoujo sect manages to be different from other eromanga for many reasons. First of all, it is pure yuri, with no penis in sight (yes, I do like that kind of thing once in a while ^^). The character designs are cute and really well drawn with sufficient detail that a reader could easily tell every girl apart (and there are a lot of them). This is as opposed to some of the other yuri manga that has somehow been picked for English distribution (*cough* “Last Uniform” *cough*) Thankfully, breasts are of normal size and there is a rather meaty amount of back arching and cunnilingus to keep the sex scenes from becoming boring.

It also helps that the storylines are great. Each chapter involves a different pair of girls (though there are some that pop up periodically such as Naitou and Hunter, who *spoiler* have the secret hots for each other). There’s also a good dollop of incest, Dom/sub and giant stuffed animal sex to keep things interesting.

So what about the anime? The anime looks pretty interesting. My first impression of the trailer was that they’ve played havoc with the hair colours. Obviously with a black and white manga, you get kinda surprised when you see the intended colours (or the unintended colours c.f. first season of Negima -_-) of the characters’ hair. I rather liked the normal, fairly drab colours that are shown in the few colour plates of the raw that I brought back from Akihabara, but the animation team have somehow decided to go for a rather bolder palette. However, it’s not too offensive, so I guess I could live with it. Here are a few comparisons of scenes:

This is the incest scene – the blue haired one is the younger sister. The voice acting seems pretty solid, as it usually does in most hentai (I really feel sorry for those poor girls, being paid to make sex noises in front of a microphone…or do they enjoy it? Everyone knows Japanese girls are permanently horny and up for it after all *_*).

This is the first story involving giant stuffed animal sex. OK, perhaps not actually involved in the sex, but it was observing. Giant stuffed animal voyeurism. I loved the back arching in this clip, but I think Ayame (the seme) looks a little too mischievous…I had taken her to be a little more normal and loving kind of lesbian…

This is (I think) the (as yet untranslated) consummation of Hunter Shinobu’s unrequited love for Naitou Momoko (the grey haired one). And yes, the hair colour is correct. I was kind of surprised by the atmosphere in this scene. In the manga, Shinobu tries to hide her crush by standoffish comments and light insults, as she likes to give off an air of being a rich ojou-sama who couldn’t care less about anyone as long as she got her carpet cleaned by some cute girl at the end of the day… The anime Shinobu seems almost…cute. I’m sure the full animation will allay my fears though…

Hopefully they will not focus too much on the sex and go into the stories a little bit as well so it won’t be as disjointed as it could potentially be. Granted the sex is teh uberhawt, but, for example, it wouldn’t be as hot for Chizzle and Shigure to be having hot lesbian sex unless you knew that Chizzle had been lusting after her sister more than any real world sibling should (or would).

Shoujo sect looks like it could well be a hentai worth watching. Let’s hope that someone (perhaps Erobeat) decides to pick it up for fansub. Otherwise, it’s full glory would go unappreciated to the unjaponified masses ^^

First may I say I think you do wonderful work here and on sister site. Although I haven’t heard of this title before I do hope they keep the sex/story balanced. I always found it wierd when in any porn they just have it, even a one-night stand has some backstory.

Hm, I was surprised to see Hunter and Naitou’s hair colors. Everyone else I was okay with. Naitou I imagined something more vivid, like pink, but I got over it real quickly. Hunter having orange hair totally destroyed my former image of her though. ;-; Also in my mind she was not an anorexic anime girl. Clearly I was expecting too much.

dauthi: Naitou definitely had grey hair, though I think it was only revealed on the back covers and in volume 2. Yeah, I think Hunter is the sort of girl that looks bigger in loose clothes, since she doesn’t get out of them until volume 2 it’s difficult to tell

Awesome news! Shoujo Sect is the only manga I got so hooked on that I tried to translate certain lines, using my incredibly puny knowledge of Japanese. When i found there was a summary of each chapter on the site of the same Eirca of Okazu that you mentioned, I was quite jubilant. Not that the story is all that but still one gets curious when olny a few of the chapters are translated…and when there is an actual story, not just sex. :D

And of course, there is close to no yuri-only hentai so even if I hadn’t been a fan of the manga I would have neen intrigued.

Mark, Otenba that are scanlating the manga and SNhiN-gx that subbed the trailer have announced interest to fansub the OVA too.

But, honestly, do you need subs to watch it?

Oh my GOD! If the trailer is any indication, we should all brace ourselves for total awesomeness. This show has the potential of being THE yuri show of all-time… That is, IF the characters are portrayed well and (to your point, Yuribou) IF a proper balance is maintained between the story and sex. Watch out Utena… you may be dethroned, soon. Let the wall between ecchi and hentai come tumbling down! ^_^
