10. Unnecessary Cleavage enhancement (UCE)
- Description: Covers a whole range of devices, the main purpose of which is to enhance the cleavage of a partisular character for a cheap chest shot. (not necessarily one with disproportionately large breasts, though this is often the case). These include: leaning on the edge of something (e.g. a pool), trying on certain bras or costumes that are tight in the right places and cleavage enhancement using crossed arms, leaning forwards and perverted magic spells (Negima yet again)
- Examples: For some reason, the pool scene in episode one of Umisho sprang instantly to mind, but almost every fanservice anime to date, really.
- For Extra Points: My personal favourite is a rare scene in which there is a yuri-cosplay attak on another girl and the victim ends up in a rather revealing costume (which leads onto device #12 ^_^), the point of which is that it enances in the correct places. It is the embarassed “minai de hazukashii” expression that makes it win. Obviously “symmetrical docking” also means win, though it is also rare to see. Smothering of other girls’ heads in said chest is always hilarious.
- Things to remember: Chest shots without cleavage are fairly useless, fanservicewise. The most poignant example I can think of is the continuing saga of Siesta’s chest in Zero no Tsukaima – Every episode we get a chest shot of her in her maid’s apron, and since that hides the useful contours, it can hardly even be considered fanservice. Kirche, on the otherhand, oozes it.
- Typical scene acted out by the sensual Karura and innocent Touka
  INT KARURA’s room, EVENING. KARURA and TOUKA are drinking sake around the low table. Or rather, KARURA is drinking, TOUKA is drunk. They are having the usual drunken conversation involving two nuns, a transdimensional demon and a moose.
  KARURA: …and then the moose says – “Whoever heard of a chocolate nun?”
  TOUKA laughs so hard she falls over backwards. Her ears flop languidly over her eyes.
  TOUKA: (still lying) Haha.. you know I should never let you get me drunk, if an assassin came in here now I’d be useless.
  She tries to get up but loses her balance and flops back onto her back laughing. Camera shoots from TOUKA’s eye view. KARURA crawls into shot. Her robe is open and the bandage material she uses as a bra is loose. She leans over and TOUKA gets a look right down her prolific cleavage.
  TOUKA blushes and averts her eyes.
  K: Ara ara…see something you like? (she wiggles suggestively and turns TOUKA’s head gently back to its original position)
  T: Nnn..no of course not! Why would I…
  K: There’s no need to be shy now Touka-chan…aren’t we friends? Here…
  She shoves TOUKA’s face between her expansive love marshmallows. TOUKAs arms flail madly to no avail.
  T: (muffled) Crrrr’t Brrth!
  Suddenly her arms go limp. KARURA looks down. There is a trickle of blood running down her abdomen. She lets go and TOUKA slumps back onto the floor unconscious. She looks happy. KARURA looms.
  K: (sensuously) Shall I give you the kiss of life, Touka-chan?
  TOUKA’s eyes flit wide open to the sight of KARURA’s lips closing in like a love guided kissile. Her scream is quickly silenced.

11. Costume Related Epistaxis (CRE)
- Description: (Epistaxis means nosebleed, by the way – just thought I’d get in a tidbit of medicine while I could ^_^) Basically, fanservice related to costume. Usually (as detailed before), the scene involves the forced dressing of the victim by another girl (usually) and the subsequent costume being more revealing and therefore causing haemorrhage. Also covers characters randomly being in revealing costumes (Hatsuki in Tonagura being the one that springs to mind) and swimsuit and bikini scenes.
- Example: Pretty much all of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. Poor Mikuru-chan…Oh, and all of Cardcaptor Sakura, of course – how could I forget that classic…
- For Extra Points: Can be combined with a lot of the above to give extra fanservice – for example Cleavage enhancement, Ecchi wind or interesting camera angles are all used to varying degrees to get the best out of costume scenes.
- Things to remember: The more embarassed a girl is to be in said costume is exponentially proportional to the moe-factor of the scene overall. As is the revealingness of the uniform, of course. As a rule, no matter how perverted a costume seems to be, there must always be one girl who thinks it is cute. Because I say so.
- Typical Scene acted out by the obvious – Sakura and Tomoyo
  INT SAKURA’s bedroom, NIGHT. SAKURA (18) is modelling the newest in the line of costumes a la TOMOYO which as usualy contains far too much lace, frills and unnecessary layers of material. TOMOYO is buzzing around with her digital SLR enthusiastically taking pictures.
  SAKURA (sweatdrops) I can’t believe you kept making me costumes after we finished collecting all the cards and everything, Tomoyo-chan. They’re so nostalgic! Some of these remind me of what I used to wear that time…
  TOMOYO pauses briefly and smiles sweetly at SAKURA.
  TOMOYO: Of course, I always dreamed of making more adult costumes for Sakura-chan. It’s always been my dream for my clothes to fit every part of your life.
  S: Ahh, that’s why you had already made me a black funeral dress for when Li-kun passed away when he was accidentally brutally hit by a twenty-tonne articulated lorry and then accidentally brutally stabbed in the head…
  TOMOYO’s eyes give nothing away. She smiles again
  T: Of course, Sakura-chan! Now come into the wardrobe, there are lots more costumes I want you to wear!
  There is a brief kerfuffle in the wardrobe. TOMOYO exts first followed by an embarassed SAKURA. She is covering her chest. The creation she is wearing is an underbust corset dress, definitely more adult, but definitely still Tomoyo with all the usual ribbons and frills.
  T (sighs) Wonderful, Sakura-chan…it looks great on you!
  S (crimson) Tomoyo-chan! There’s nothing covering my…you know! (she looks down and blushes deeper) and they look so…big…
  T (covering her nose with one hand)That’s how it’s meant to be, Sakura-chan…Now go back in and get changed. It’s the last one at the back on the left…
  SAKURA quickly ducks into the closet.
  S (VO): There’s nothing at the back on the left, Tomoyo-chan!
  T: It’s definitely there, Sakura-chan!
  S: There’s only this big red hair ribbon and some costume tape on a hangar…
  T: Yes, Sakura-chan, that is the costume!
  We hear SAKURA sweatdrop from inside the closet. TOMOYO plugs her nose with some tissue paper to stop the bleeding.

12. Pseudoyuri bust comparison (PBC)
- Description: A distinct entity from the “Unexpected Yuri Scene” in its own right since it appears fairly often on its own without any actual yuri to go with it. This scene involves two girls, not necessarily friends, who for whatever reason decide to measure or compare bust size with the time honoured method of groping. The context is either “Damn you, you’re bigger than me, how the hell are they so big?” or “My my my, hasn’t your chest grown since last time I saw it – let’s give you a grope and see”.
- Example: Haruhi Vs. Mikuru in SHnY and I believe that Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru has a scene in which the girls try out Mizuho’s fake chest…for the sake of hilarity.
- For Extra Points: The victim enjoys it rather too much. The attacker enjoys it rather too much.
- Things to remember: If there is already a yuri subtext between the two characters, it does add extra to this type of scene. However, this scene is mainly used for comic relief rather than advancing a yuri subplot (hence pseudoyuri). Having the entire cast line up to feel the victim up is always the height of comedy.
- Typical Scene acted out by the insane Tsuruya and Mikuru
  INT Changing rooms, DAY. TSURUYA and MIKURU are getting changed opposite each other and the other girls are close by. MIKURU is having trouble doing up her bra.
  TSURUYA (laughing) Nya haha – Mikuru-chan, did you get bigger again?
  MIKURU blushes and looks away.
  MIKURU: Stop looking at them, Tsuruya-san, you’re making it worse!
  TSURUYA sneaks up to MIKURU and performs the Reverse Breast Grab.
  M: Aaahn!~ Don’t do that Tsuruya-san! It’s embarassing!
  T (groping) Ah hah, Mikuru-chan, I think you’re even bigger than last time I did this!
  M: But you just did that 5 minutes ago!
  T (pensive, but gripping) Hmm, maybe you’re right, Mikuru-chan! Suzumiya-san yahoo! Come over here!
  HARUHI: What?
  T: I’m not sure, but have Mikuru’s breasts gotten even bigger?
  H (rolling up imaginary sleeves and flexing her fingers) Maybe they have…Prepare yourself Mikuru-chan!
  There is double glomping. The other girls sidle over to watch, but noone tries to help Mikuru because, well, let’s face it, it’s fairly amusing. MIKURU looks around frantically and spots YUKI.
  M: Yuki-san! Please help me!
  YUKI walks calmly over and pins MIKURU’s arms behind her back.
  Y: Movement will impede accurate measurement.
  M: Auuuuuu!
