Watashi no shumi wa hentai desu – on being accepted for who you are.

/ I think the best example of being accepted for who you are is Yuri Konata…
(For those of you less ofay with Japanese, the title means “My hobby is hentaiâ€)
I thought that it was time for a little introspection after that last post (especially since it seems to have flummoxed the great proportion of my readers). I think that my last post/production (see post below) pretty much sums up where I have come in my hobby to date. Being a scientific style article on a made up scale of hentai perversity, I think it shows something. That something is: I have collected, sorted and translated hentai for such a long time that it no longer seems out of the ordinary for me. I can now easily integrate my hentai hobby with the rest of my life – i.e. science, medicine and research without feeling like I’m breaking some sort of moral code.
Which of course I am.
It’s interesting to notice the way the world reviles pornography. However, sometimes I can see where they are coming from. I spent a long time racking my brains for the REASON. The REASON why society as a whole has an ill regard for anyone that partakes of pornography, even though a lot of people do (granted, mostly males).
The first reason I found was the most obvious: More than half society are female and by default dislike pornography for one of two reasons – 1) It is woman centric and promotes jealousy of men fixating on the naked bodies of other women or 2) It is somehow degrading to women. (Though I believe that most women quote (2) while actually thinking (1)). Therefore, society as a whole must dislike pornography since the other half (men) can’t be seen as condoning the viewing of such offensive material – or they’d never get laid.
The second reason is possibly conditioned response. Since society limits the viewing of such material from a young age (and I remember those desperate teenage days of trying to get any kind of movie to download on a 56k connection), it promotes both curiosity about the content and a kind of taboo surrounding its viewing. Therefore, this “social taboo†persists into later life, where there needs to be a conscious shakeoff of the conditioned fetters (porn is not inherently depraved) in order to overcome the guilt surrounding pornography. In the words of Steve from Coupling again, “Masturbation is a stealth activityâ€.
The most interesting reason I could come up with is something I wish to dwell on for a moment. I propose that society dislikes pornography since it panders to one of our most base instincts. Since we have evolved so far in our sentience to have come up with such wonderful life altering inventions such as the automobile, the electric toothbrush and the interporn…ahem I mean internet, perhaps humankind does not like to be reminded that we still do such things behind closed doors. Perhaps in addition to reason 1, women also find men that have seemingly eschewed such primitive habits more highly adapted to today’s world and therefore more attractive.

/ Yeah it’s more Yuri Konata – There really aren’t pics relevant to this article anywhere, so why not?
However, it is this reason that I somewhat agree with. Pornography, on the whole, doesn’t try to get itself out of the primitive niche that I have shoehorned it into. Western pornography in particular lacks any kind of thought going into its production – there’s no story and the script can generally be summed up in stage directions. Actually, it can generally be summed up in one line “Scene 5 – Dick Cocksson fucks Pussy Cummings in the cunt, then he comes in her ass. End scene 5†It would be hilarious if there actually were actors by those names…
In short, hundreds of porn films are pumped out (if you excuse the term) a week just to pander to various men’s basic tastes as general fap material. And even the men themselves (sorry to any women reading who like porn as well ^^;;) don’t do anything to help. The biggest problem, I feel, is the difficulty in NOT seeing pornography as “something to fap off to†and merely seeing it as another form of expression. No place is this better borne out than the world of erotic fiction. I have sifted through enough terribly grammaticised stories to realise that the vast majority of fans on the interweb prefer their porn without plot. My favourite case was recently on one of my futanari forums; one user managed approximately 30 grammatical and spelling errors in the 5 lines proposing the idea for his story. I would have given him the benefit of the doubt that English was not his first language, but he was from Chicago -_-;;.
I guess that is why I fell into the hentai and eromanga/comics scene. Although the US have a fair number of erotic comic artists who do try their best to weave actual story into their works, they really don’t have a patch on the Japanese. Those people really do know how to do a job well. Almost to the extreme that it’s not even fap material any more. It is enlightening that only here can you find the true desensitisation of pornography from its primitive roots. In fact, you get the broad spectrum – at one end, the pure fap material, passing through heavy porn thinly veiled by stereotyped storylines to some truly original story rich porn that you are too busy reading to fap to at all. However, it’s interesting that the general Japanese public do have the same view of pornography as the rest of the world. Though they are full aware of the depravity going on right under their noses ^^;
So what exactly did I want to say with this? First of all, sorry to all those of you readers that found my last production a little too highbrow. I’m afraid that’s just the way I am – I am a scientist at heart, even though suitably depraved. I pride myself that I am able to de-vilify pornography in my own mind and get rid of the guilt that society wants us to feel when looking at it. I love mixing my hobbies and I strongly believe that pornography is yet another form of expression that has the same power to entertain like others, without the need to resort to boring plotless fuckflicks.
But of course I’d never tell my real-life acquaintances what I get up to on the internet. They’d be too busy hee-hawing about how disgusting my hobbies are to realise that it might just be a valid form of expression.
Unless they read this blog.
Bugger.

Man, your posts always have the best pictures. And thank Science that there are people like you translating manga for people like me to… appreciate…
It’s an unfortunate thing that so many women seem to be against porn. I think it’s really because so little is made for them. The most mainstream porn is ridiculously unimaginative, unrealistic (or perhaps not too believable) and understandably unappealing (yeah, I hate it). It just focuses so much on the mechanical aspects of sex. I think if many women were exposed to the right kinds of porn, they’d pretty easily change their minds. Good candidates might include porn made by women. Go figure.

The internet is for …~
I don’t know if I really count as a women but i actually don’t dislike porn. And shouldn’t you be a bit more optimistic about what people think of what you say, do and like? I mean I really like to hear (I wouldn’t read your Blog otherwise) your opinion about things and just want to know what you have to say, because it IS interesting. To say a bit more about the post: Dick Cocksson and Pussy Cummings would agree when I say, most people are just too unenlightened about these things and have problems to understand this kind of expression. Todays society just isn’t ready for people like you, but we are.
Btw. I… need to completely agree and very much have the same problem and think the same way.

Lol Avenue Q \^^/
Yeah, I often think that most people are actually really quite depraved inside, but as I age I’m finding that either it’s not true or well hidden…At least the people who have found out about this blog don’t seem too troubled by it ^^;;

There’s nothing wrong with intellectualizing porn. I thoroughly enjoyed your last post with it’s data tables etc.
The Japanese have the ability to make porn that stimulates the mind and other parts simultaneously. Basically, the pwnage of all pornography.
